PreK Program
The
PreK Program serves children who will have turned four years
old by October 15 of the current school year and who live in
a town served by MSAD 3, 34 or 56. The PreK Program is
FREE to eligible children.
The PreK Program provides curious young learners with positive cognitive, physical and social experiences as they develop the skills necessary to enter kindergarten ready to succeed.
The classroom learning centers are well equipped with a rich variety of educational materials and toys. The daily storytelling, book-sharing, song and movement activities nurture the young child’s language development and his or her first steps toward learning to read. The daily routine encourages each child’s development of self-discipline, self-esteem and creativity. The certified and experienced teachers nurture and honor each child’s individual needs, interests and strengths.
The PreK Program provides children with
- a rich early educational experience;
- literacy and language infused classrooms;
- Maine state certified teachers;
- research-based instructional strategies and the High/Scope curriculum;
- on-going screening and assessments to measure the skills children are gaining and to identify those who might be at risk of developing reading or other learning difficulties;
- computer learning centers;
- preschool/ elementary school/ parent partnership that supports
a seamless transition to kindergarten; and
- transportation to and from the program for children living
within the elementary school catchment area.
The
PreK Programs of Maine School Administrative Districts 3, 34
and 56 are delivered in collaboration with Broadreach Family
& Community Services and Waldo County Head Start.
